History of Old Anandians' Centenary Group

The Old Anandians’ Centenary Group comprises of Anandians who were students of the Advanced Level Classes during the Centenary Year of Ananda College Colombo Sri Lanka.

The Inaugural meeting of the Centenary Group was held in 1988 at the Kularatne Hall. There were more than 700 Anandians present for this meeting. Mr. A.P. Gunaratne, the then Principal and Mr. Sithendra Senaratne – representing the main OBA were present as distinguished guests.

The constitution of the Centenary Group was adopted at this meeting and the objective of bringing in three batches namely 1986,1987 and 1988 was unanimously adopted by all those present.

The founder President of the Group was Mr. Samantha Rajapaksa, Secretary was Mr. Sujeewa Karunasekera and the Treasurer was Mr. Lalith Perera. Since this meeting the Centenary Group has gone from strength to strength and last year (2002) celebrated its 15th Anniversary.

The first get together of the Group named “Fellowship Night” was organized in 1989 at the Pavilion of the Nomads Grounds with a large number of young single Anandians. The most recent get together was organized as a Dinner Dance at the Taprobane Hotel where the members accompanied their charming partners.

As the Centenary Group presently has more than 700 members and has a potential membership of 1500 Anandians, we expect the  Old Anandians of classes 1986, 1987 & 1988 to register their contact details and keep in touch and strengthen their brotherhood.

This is a brief synopsis on the History of the Centenary Group and an assurance that it will undoubtedly last our life times.
